Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia Donates a New Back Door to Army Veteran & Mother

At Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia, our mission goes far beyond windows and doors—we’re committed to improving lives, strengthening communities, and supporting those who have given so much of themselves. Through our Renewal Cares initiative, we recently had the privilege of helping someone who truly embodies resilience: Tina, an Army Veteran, devoted mother, and New Kent homeowner. 

A Mother, a Veteran, and a Fighter

Tina’s story is one of strength, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to her family. 

She joined the U.S. Army at just 17 years old and went on to serve five tours in the Middle East, including Kuwait and Afghanistan. Today, she continues to battle lasting health complications linked to her service. Despite undergoing surgery to remove a tumor the very morning of her in‑home appointment with our team, Tina kept her meeting because she was determined to find a safe, functional solution for her home’s failing back door. 

When making decisions about her home, Tina has always prioritized the well-being of her two daughters, who are now college students. She purchased her current house for the school district and the safety it offered, and her daughters connected with the home immediately. But the back door was a different story.

A Back Door That Was Failing—Fast

When Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia Design Consultant Jeremy Cooper arrived at Tina’s home, the extent of her back door’s condition was clear: 

  • The original door frame was damaged by severe weather 
  • Drafts and moisture leaked through the bottom 
  • The steel exterior was rusting out 
  • The lock had failed, leaving the home unsecured 
  • Tina had been forced to install a makeshift deadbolt just to keep the door operable 

For months, Tina explored replacement options, but most companies were either too expensive or unwilling to repair the damaged frame.  

Then, by chance, she saw a Renewal by Andersen ad just moments after discussing the problem with her husband.

Even though Tina believed a new back door might be out of reach, she scheduled a consultation—a meeting that left a lasting impression on both sides. 

“We had zero expectation,” Tina shared. “We just appreciated that the salesperson was so kind, even after we realized we couldn’t go through with it at the moment.” 

Our team felt the same way. Her story, resilience, and sincerity quickly made it clear that she was a perfect candidate for the Renewal Cares program.

A New Beginning—Installed With Care

Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia designed and installed a new door built for durability, security, and energy efficiency at no cost to Tina through the Renewal Cares program. 

Immediately after installation, Tina felt the difference: 

“I can already tell it’s warmer in here!” 

No longer dealing with a drafty door, Tina now has a home that is more energy efficient, comfortable, and secure.
