At Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia, we believe a home is more than four walls; it’s where stability begins, where families put down roots, and where lives are built. That belief is exactly what connects us to Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity, an organization that has spent more than 30 years turning that same vision into reality for families across Fredericksburg, Stafford, King George, and Spotsylvania.
Our team had the honor of donating and installing two entry doors in a Habitat home in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It’s a small contribution in the grand scope of what Habitat does, but for the family walking through those doors for the first time, we hope it means everything.
About Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity
Founded in 1995, Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity has been building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter for more than three decades. Their mission is simple and powerful: to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope for families in need of affordable housing in the greater Fredericksburg region.
But Habitat doesn’t just hand over keys; their Homeownership Program is built on genuine partnerships. Prospective homebuyers demonstrate a need for affordable housing, the ability to repay an affordable mortgage, and a commitment to giving back through “sweat equity” by volunteering on Habitat build projects, as well as completing a financial education course. The result is a path to homeownership that builds not just a house, but the financial confidence and community ties to sustain it.
The families who earn Habitat homes are your neighbors like teachers, firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and first-time homebuyers who are working hard and simply need a fair shot at affordable homeownership.

“We are grateful to Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia for their generous donation of doors and installation labor. Their support helps us stretch our resources further and allows another deserving family to move one step closer to affordable homeownership. Partnerships like this make our mission possible, and together we strengthen our communities and create additional opportunities for families to build brighter futures. We look forward to our next collaboration.”
Mary Beth Rich, President of the Board of Directors for Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity
Why Renewal by Andersen Got Involved
Here at Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia, community giving isn’t an afterthought; it’s built into how we operate. Our Renewal Cares Committee is made up of team members across Central Virginia who are dedicated to finding meaningful ways to serve the communities where we live and work.
When the opportunity arose to support a Habitat home in Fredericksburg, the decision was easy. We had two entry doors to donate, we had the installation expertise to do the job right, and we had a team that genuinely wanted to show up.

From Old Doors to a Fresh Start
The two existing entry doors had seen better days. For a family about to cross the threshold of their very first home, that first impression matters, and so does what those doors do for the comfort and security of the home behind them.
Our installation team got to work removing the old doors and fitting the new ones with the same attention to detail and craftsmanship we bring to every job.
The finished result was two properly fitted, secure entry doors that are ready to welcome a family to their new home.

What a Front Door Really Means
For a family achieving homeownership for the first time, every detail carries weight. A solid, well-installed entry door isn’t just about looks. It means:
- Security: Peace of mind from the moment a family moves in.
- Energy Efficiency: Properly sealed doors help keep heating and cooling costs down, which matters even more to maintain an affordable mortgage budget.
- Pride: Walking through a beautiful front door every day is a quiet but powerful reminder that this house is yours.
Every family deserves to start their first home chapter right.
A Well-Earned Cone at a Fredericksburg Icon

After a day of hard work, the team celebrated the right way at the beloved Fredericksburg institution, Carl’s Frozen Custard!
If you’ve never been to Carl’s, it’s a rite of passage for anyone who calls the greater Fredericksburg area home. Founded in 1947 by Carl Sponseller, this beloved walk-up window stand has served old-fashioned, homemade frozen custard on Princess Anne Street for nearly 80 years, and the recipe has never changed. In 2005, the stand’s iconic Art Moderne building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register, cementing its status as a true Fredericksburg landmark.
What makes Carl’s custard different from ordinary ice cream? It comes down to eggs, butterfat, and the absence of air. The richer, denser, creamier result keeps lines wrapped around the building even on humid Virginia summer afternoons. The Sponseller family has kept the tradition alive across three generations, and on any given day you’ll find neighbors, tourists, the occasional sports celebrity, politician, or even a crew of replacement window installers all waiting in the same line.
Renewal by Andersen Project Manager Omar and the crew treated themselves to strawberry cones after a day of giving back to the community. There’s no better way to finish the day in Fredericksburg.
Building More Than Homes
Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We think that’s worth showing up for with time, skills, and resources when we have them to give.
We’re grateful to Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for the opportunity to be part of this story, and we look forward to continuing to find ways to give back to the communities we serve across Central Virginia.
