Recently, our team had the privilege of helping a deserving couple in Mechanicsville, Virginia by providing and installing a brand-new patio door at no cost to them.
A Door That Could No Longer Open
Everett and Carolyn love welcoming family and friends into their home. During a gathering last year, however, their patio door suddenly broke, leaving them unable to open or close it properly. What initially seemed like a simple repair quickly revealed a more serious issue.
When a Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia Design Consultant visited their home, they discovered that the frame around the patio door had significant rot. Over time, the deterioration caused the door to become misaligned, which ultimately led to the door failing during the gathering. The damage meant the door needed to be fully replaced to restore both safety and functionality.
A Home Built for Family
For Everett and Carolyn, their home has always been more than just a house. Over the years, it has served as a safe and welcoming place for their family, where they have cared for loved ones across multiple generations—from their elderly parents to their grandchildren.
They always believed their home should be a space to share with their loved ones.
“When we bought this house, we said this is what it’s going to be for,” Everett shared.
A Difficult Situation
Like many families, Everett and Carolyn were facing unexpected challenges. Everett had been undergoing cancer treatment, and the resulting medical expenses made it difficult for the couple to take on additional home improvement costs. Unfortunately, this meant they were unable to secure financing for a new patio door.
Today, however, there is wonderful news: Everett has successfully completed treatment and is now cancer-free, a milestone that Everett and Carolyn are grateful to celebrate together.
