Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke Supports Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia

At Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke, we understand the importance of loving your home. But for families whose children need access to medical care, time away from home can be unavoidable. To make the process easier on those families, Ronald McDonald House Charities provides a home-away-from-home where families can stay close to their child while they are in the hospital. By providing a welcoming place for families who need to stay overnight while their child receives care at Carilion Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia prevents the strain of distance from becoming an additional burden on these families. To help an organization that gives so much to our community, Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke has donated and installed new kitchen and dining room windows, making Ronald McDonald House a safer and more comfortable place for families to stay.

Upgrading Windows to Create a Safer, More Comfortable Space for Families and Volunteers

This Ronald McDonald House location is a beautiful and inviting space, featuring comfortable rooms for guests and open common areas. But, like most buildings built in 1984 with original windows, some of its windows were showing signs of wear. Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke replaced windows in the kitchen and dining room areas, including one that was completely inoperable, taking care to ensure the new windows looked cohesive and attractive in the space. These new functional and beautiful windows make this space safer and more efficient for guests, staff, and volunteers.

Functional Improvements That Make a Meaningful Difference

“We have volunteers come and cook hot meals for our guests, and some of them are not used to our stove, so if something was left on a burner too long, we could end up with smoke filling the kitchen and no easy way to air it out,” Stefanie Hall, House Program Director at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia explained. “It will be such a relief to have a window that can open so the fire department doesn’t have to come out!”

Supporting Families Through a Love-a-Room Sponsorship

This window replacement project served as Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke’s in-kind donation toward a Love-a-Room sponsorship, which helps with basic maintenance on rooms yearly. This includes upgrading and repairing any items in the rooms showing significant signs of wear. Through the Love-a-Room sponsorship, Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke is not only upgrading windows but also creating a more welcoming space for families in need.

“If we didn’t have Renewal by Andersen coming and changing these windows… we would have to do it ourselves, and that comes out of the dollars that are going back to support these families,” said Montana Kimrey, Donor and Community Relations Coordinator for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia. “So instead of spending the money to replace the windows, that all goes back into making sure families have a place to stay.”

A Culture of Giving Back

Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke is continuing it’s culture of caring with a team member volunteer day to paint and patch walls at Ronald McDonald House. Other recent community support efforts include collecting gifts for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree and volunteering with Feeding Southwest Virginia.

Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke General Manager Tony Adams believes that providing superior home improvement experiences to homeowners and giving back to the community go hand-in-hand. “[Renewal by Andersen of Roanoke] is a company that’s not just about bottom lines, it’s not just about making money, it’s about helping others. Not only are we going to take care of the project, but we’re going to stand behind you like we stand behind the community.”
